The connection between art and national identity has been around for a very long time. One prime example of this would be in the United States, with the painting of General Washington crossing the Delaware, or the Lincoln Memorial. Norway’s romantic nationalist art movement played a similar role in establishing a national identity that created a much stronger need for Norwegian independence from Sweden. Much of that art exemplifies and even exaggerates the natural beauty of the Norwegian Country, such as Brudeferden I Hardanger, which serves as the header image for this blog.
